2025 Power Rankings Week 1

2025 Power Rankings Week 1

2025 Power Rankings Week 1. It's time to list the top ten teams of the week, along with some of the best individual performances, and this week was an exciting one.

10. Jaguars

Travis Hunter tongue out

Jaguars came out of the game hot. The Panthers had hype before the season, and the Jaguars ended that immediately. The Jaguars still have questions to answer, but this offense looked just as explosive as Jaguars fans hoped they would.

9. Steelers

Aaron Rodgers Steelers

The Steelers are next because they also brought the offensive fireworks, but against a better opponent. The defense, on the other hand, looked bad. If not for a special teams strip and recovery by Keneth Gainwell, the Steelers would be 0-1. They appear to be capable of hanging with anybody, but their defense keeps them lower on this list.

8. Rams

Rams allen td catch

The Rams played an ugly game against the Texans, but they went into the deep end, and they didn't drown; they fought their way out. The Rams were gritty, and they remain undefeated. Mathew Stafford's back looked just fine. Even though the win was ugly, it was a team win, and I trust both sides to be able to do what it takes in big moments in the future.

7. Bucs

Mike Evans

The Bucs are already in midseason form. Winning an NFC South shootout and remaining on top of the division. What year is it? The Bucs are picking up right where they left off.

6. Eagles

Jalen Hurts Eagles

It might seem odd to have the undefeated defending champions ranked 6th on this list, but that's how they performed. We know the potential. But the discipline was awful. Carter is spitting on another player. The constant pass interference. The Eagles were gifting the Cowboys opportunities. Also, I love Jalen Hurts; he is unquestionably top 5 in my eyes. However, he shouldn't have to score every TD by himself in the first game of the season against a weakened Cowboys defense that wasn't even that good last year. I was not impressed at all by the new offensive coordinator. Eagles do what they need to do to get by, but they are capable of so much more.

5. Colts

Daniel Jones Colts

What the hell happened? Daniel Jones and the Colts embarrassed the Dolphins. This was such a flawless execution that the Dolphins could fire and trade everyone, and it would be justified. The Colts left the Dolphins utterly defeated. There wasn't a single good takeaway from that game for the Dolphins. The Colts were the most dominant team of week one, but I need to see more from both teams to see what it meant.

4. Commanders

The Commanders Win

The Commanders picked up where they left off last year. Jayden was toying with the Giants. It was all smiles as they played. He was unfazed as the Commanders' defense terrorized Russel Wilson. Commanders don't look like they are regressing.

3. Packers

Michah Parsons Packers

There were a lot of people (Bears and Cowboys fans) who spewed a lot of copium and slander at the Packers to downplay the Packers' trade for Parsons. All the Packers did was come out and look like the best team in the NFC North and the Super Bowl contenders people said they were.

2. Chargers

Justin Herbert Chargers

Oh my god, the Chargers finally beating the Chiefs was huge. This doesn't change the narrative on Herbert, but this is a step in the right direction. The Chargers have immediately proved that they are taking the next step and that this year, the Chiefs' tickets to the top of the AFC West are not guaranteed. Herbert played some of the best football I've ever seen him play. Jim and the staff he has put together with the Chargers have the potential to do something special. The Chargers have given fans every reason to believe in them this season.

1. The Bills

Josh Allen and Prater

The Chargers were supposed to be number one. They beat the Chiefs and got a big win, and normally they would have been. However, the Bills beat the Ravens in an instant classic. In a playoff atmosphere, under as much pressure as one can be in a single game, the Bills were unbeatable. How many points do you need to beat Josh Allen and the Bills? If you said 40, you are wrong. IF the Bills could fight off a 15-point deficit late in the game against a juggernaut like the Ravens, there is no telling how far they can go this season. Everything is on the table.

MVP

Daniel Jones

Daniel Jones Captain

Daniel Jones has to be the MVP of week one. He scored on every drive he had in the first half which is historic. I'm not gonna pretend like I'm a Daniel Jones guy because he played well. I'm not, but I am pro reality and have the crazy belief that what you do matters more than pure narrative. Daniel Jones put on a clinic and has taken a strong first step to reviving his career.

Play of the week

Hopkins

Deandre Hopkins Ravens

Play of the week goes to DeAndre Hopkins with the Ravens. This play made me audibly gasp. If this were all scripted like a wrestling match, you couldn't draw up a better debut play for Hopkins on the Ravens than a one-handed touchdown down the sideline. My god, Hopkins is him.

Narrative Changer

JJ Mccarthy

JJ McCarthy

I have no idea why everyone was down on McCarthy. He's been a champion at every level he has played at, and he has all the intangibles, plus he's good and he's mobile. Was this kid created in a lab? Yet somehow everyone wrote him off, and when you tried to point any of this out, you were laughed at. JJ was an afterthought of his division and his draft class. Largely thought to be the next Zach Wilson by some. Sean Payton was literally bragging about forcing the Vikings to trade up for him. However, then JJ McCarthy played and had one of the best rookie debut games in recent memory. Scoring three tds in the fourth quarter and beating his division rival and the draft darling, Caleb Williams, who got all the credit, he didn't. JJ has quickly changed the narrative on himself.

Game of the week

Ravens vs. Bills

The Bills beat Ravens

Could it have been anything else? The Bills and Ravens were amazing. Lamar and Henry took off on the Bills, and it looked to be another dominant victory until Josh Allen and the Bills defense engineered one of the craziest comebacks you've ever seen. This is reminiscent of the Chicago Bears' game against the Cardinals in 2006. The Bills were who we thought they were.
